The Glasgow-based teen trio Bis plays the sort of self-consciously sugar-coated pop cheese that openly revels in its own kitsch value: The band members are named Manda Rin, John Disco, and Sci-Fi Steven. The art on the packaging of This Is Teen-C Power! is so retro-cute, you keep expecting to see pictures of Hot Wheels cars and Scooby Doo lunch boxes. And the six unrefined pop songs on the trio's domestic debut each run about two and a half minutes long, contain lots of buzzing guitars and silly keyboard effects, and cover such hard-hitting topics as candy, discos, boyfriends, and being born in the 1970s. This Is Teen-C Power! is fun in small doses—the band's gleeful, off-kilter enthusiasm is infectious—but it's pretty slight stuff. This 15-minute dose is about as much Bis as most folks will be able to handle.
