The Ocean Blue: See The Ocean Blue
The Ocean Blue: See The Ocean Blue

It's been two and a half years since The Ocean Blue released its fine third album, Beneath the Rhythm and Sound, and though the band's tension-free pop sound is far from hard-hitting, it's nice to have the Pennsylvania-based group back. The Ocean Blue's specialty—glistening, pretty guitar-pop made more distinct by David Schelzel's Morrissey-without-the-whine voice—is intact here, though the group doesn't quite match the glimmering majesty of past college-radio hits like "Ballerina Out Of Control." Still, See The Ocean Blue has plenty of appealing moments, especially once it starts reverting to its early sound on tracks like "Slide" and "Ways and Means." Tracks like "Out Here" probably rock out a little bit more than most diehard fans would like, but the album as a whole is a worthy, consistent comeback attempt.
