Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Sofia Coppola and her longtime collaborator and costume designer Stacey Battat will receive the second annualVarietyCreative Collaborators award at the Middleburg Film Festival in October.
The award will honor their achievements together on films such as The Bling Ring, The Beguiled, On the Rocks and the upcoming A24 release Priscilla.
Middleburg Film Festival executive director Susan Koch said, Were delighted that these two immensely talented women director Sofia Coppola and her longtime costume designer, Stacey Battat will be receiving Varietys Creative Collaborators Award and presenting Priscilla at this years festival. Together, they have crafted an unforgettable on-screen experience.
The conversation with Coppola and Battat will be held on Oct. 20 and moderated byVarietysenior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay. The talk will serve as both a career retrospective highlighting their previous work and a preview of their partnership on Priscilla.
What an honor to celebrate the collaboration between these two incredible women at the Middleburg Film Festival. Sofia Coppolas films are filled with characters who express themselves through costume, Tangcay said. From the pastel gowns of The Beguiled to the sought-after dazzling looks of The Bling Ring, Coppola trusted costume designer Stacey Battat to bring her vision to life through clothing. Priscilla Philippe Le Sourd The festivals slate this year includes George C. Wolfes Rustin, Alexander Paynes The Holdovers and Emerald Fennells Saltburn. Past festival honorees include Edward Berger, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Kenneth Branagh, Noah Baumbach and Damien Chazelle.
At the festival, Tangcay and Varietys senior awards editor Clayton Davis will also host their Coffee and Contenders conversation discussing the state of the awards race.
The Middleburg Film Festival will celebrate its 11th anniversary this year, running from Oct. 19 -22.
