The 90s nostalgia is in full force with the announcement of the Jubilee Tour. Two of this decade’s most beloved rock bands, +LIVE+ and Stone Temple Pilots, will hit the road to honor 30 years of their respective albums. Will you be there to sing along to Throwing Copper and Purple in their entirety, plus more beloved hits?
The alternative rock movement was very much alive in 1994, and +LIVE+ and Stone Temple Pilots were at the forefront of it. Both groups infused this musical style with the mega-popular grunge elements of the era to create a sound entirely their own — and it has lasted through three decades, endless awards, and millions of albums sold between them.
Let’s take +LIVE+, the always fresh and occasionally funky Pennsylvania rock band. While they now consist only of founding member Ed Kowalczyk and several touring musicians, he has more than enough charisma to make up for it. Expect to hear all the radio-rock favorites from Throwing Copper, including “Selling the Drama,” “I Alone,” “Lightning Crashes,” and “All Over You.”
These tracks helped the album reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and earn them legions of adoring fans. And while +LIVE+ has since released six more albums (and sold 20 million copies!), most recently 2014’s The Turn, many agree that Throwing Copper will always be their trademark project. And Kowalczyk intends to give it a proper 30th anniversary tour alongside his friends in Stone Temple Pilots.
Speaking of which, we can’t say enough about these SoCal-based alternative rock icons. With over 40 million albums sold, one GRAMMY, and eight No. 1 singles, Stone Temple Pilots is undoubtedly one of the most triumphant rock bands of the 1990s. And they owe at least a few of these accolades to the beauty of Purple, their sophomore album that defied the already-sky-high expectations of fans and critics.
Coming off the success of their debut album, Core, which sold eight million copies, Stone Temple Pilots knew they had a lot to prove. But not only was Purple the farthest thing from a sophomore slump, it helped to usher in a new era for then-frontman Scott Weiland and his bandmates. They received incredible reviews on singles like “Interstate Love Song,” “Big Empty,” and “Vasoline,” and cemented Stone Temple Pilots as the rock and roll legends they remain today.
Whether you were around in their 90s heyday or not, these albums were a soundtrack to the lives of millions of alternative rock fans. And you experience the magic of +LIVE+ and Stone Temple Pilots, plus openers Soul Asylum and Our Lady Peace, on the Jubilee tour.
