Once a king ruled in the land of Perchta
He was well-known to the chagrin of humans and animals because of his cruelty
Even his wife and children, seven in number,
Followed him to malice every single time!
On high horses they started with thundering steps
The royal hounds at their side bolted with them
Because they love, at their highest delight,
To chase the forest's living game
Under thunderous bugles into the twilight
In sight there is a house of his subjects now
Waiting for the king's call, the wild cavalry
On the horses changes direction to boundless frenzy!
They trample on the old woman who's covering at the door
Her grandchild shares her fate, dies by a horse
The old even come out into the cold night for help
The end of this cruel work is done by raging dogs!
In her torturous pain the old woman struggles
The king's entourage troops up around her so she can't escape
She asks for heavenly help to punish her oppressors
Curses with her last breath the king, his wife and the children!
Soon fields should burst when earth breaks
Icy winds should blow as the God's tribunal
Fire breaks out on the field, in blazing light
This misery lasted too long, soon the Gods will do their duty
And the moment she was silent, life went out of her
The earth quaked strongly as if the end of the world had come
No mercy, no pardon for the king, his wife and children
Retaliated are their deeds now, turned to stone in blazing embers
Pilgrims come from afar, thinking of the origin of this pain
Call on the mountain's ghost so he lets you pass fastly.
But also listen to the rules, remember the story
Remember the true duties or your power will break
