I saw a woman beat her child,
I saw a moment of hate.
A strike that hit so hard
that it can never be forgotten.
What do I care about why the woman hit.
I saw a rose on the pavement,
a rose on the street in the middle of the city.
A husband had died,
a father had bled to death;
What do I care about why someone shot.
I saw a million young men
who died in struggle against the enemy.
I heard the mothers
mourn the sons.
What do I care about why there is war.
I saw the rockets exhibited;
A row of bombs without end.
A misunderstood word
and the Earth is gone;
What do I care about their creation (the bombs).
I saw you walking on the beach,
I saw you stretch out your hand.
You took me in your embrace
and the agonies disappeared.
What do I care about why this is so.
