They shuffle nearby
Some quiet as death
Alive, but surely dead
Some screaming as war
Banchees of battle
Until tranquilized
Voiceless or frantic
Listless or stilled
Sometimes sounds,
Shaking, trembling
Muttering incoherently
Haunting me
The cost of war
Of barbarity in men
Spectral reality unwaning
Tucked away silently
That they do not haunt
Those who hate us
Some so small,
So innocent, owing none
But they paid in full
Where is justice beloved
Phantoms n'er to know
Condemned without trial
Their fingers point out
At the guilty unceasingly
Smouldering minds sleep
Hearts broken, scarred
They were no fanatics
They only wanted peace
The horrors that mamed
Visions of total loss
Realizing calamity
Unable to cope, to tame
The beast within, without
A jungleless wilderness
A cemetery is tranquil
But that is not here
For dead do not know it
And the living live in fear
Who then suffers so
When they saunter by
With nowhere to go
