Sometimes, I watch the city lights,
Yet I can't manage to take a step forward.
There are days when the brightness is so great,
That people are blinded, all of a sudden!
In the most sombre and darkest alleys,
I manage to see the souls of people;
Travelling through streets and leaping over walls,
That's how I discover that there are many Lisbons...
A city exists on every street corner
And every street corner keeps a secret:
He who unveils it, knows how to divine fate;
He who can't do so, exposes himself to banishment...
There are so many Lisbons, only one Tagus....
That river that is almost a sea when it arrives here!
There are so many of them that, at times, I can't see them
For, when there is too much light, it blinds people...
