Tìr An Airm [English translation]

Will you come with me young lassie

to the peaceful happy land that I love?

And you'll see soldiers running

amidst the lovely flowers on the moorland.

Ho ro horain ò!

Welcome to the army's land.

Ho ro horain ò!

Looking out on a quiet morning

at a big round ball above the mountain

and since the green waves are calm

the sea's music has a fresh new theme.

Ho ro horain ò!

Welcome to the army's land.

Ho ro horain ò!

And will you come with me to that land I love?

See the evil dark birds

ploughing the skies overhead,

making for Stornaway in a hurry.

Ho ro horain ò!

Welcome to the army's land.

Ho ro horain ò!

Now read your history, open your eyes

to the army's way in every generation

of trampling on the cereal growing crofts

and on the young lives of the boys of Uist.

Ho ro horain ò!

Welcome to the army's land.

Ho ro horain ò!

I will not go to the king,

I will no more go to battle

since London is deceitful and Britain is fraudulent1

I will stand only for the peace of the islands2

Ho ro horain ò!

Welcome to the army's land.

Ho ro horain ò!

1. this line is a reference to the disgraceful mistreatment of much of Scotland by the English majority in parliament (including both deliberate misinterpretation of the treaty and deliberate violations when there was no hope of spinning an interpretation that would be other than laughable to support the actions) since the formation of the Union of 1707, which is an ongoing problem today2. the islands are the Hebrides
