A wrecked ship, let me be away in the deep,
let me be like this
without any masts, without any sails,
let me sleep.
Let the place be soft and the shore tranquil
all around
the hulk tilted and the bow there
where I'll lay.
Let the sea be spiritless and the fish dead,
let them be like this
and the rocks astonished and the stars remote,
let them gaze.
The hours beat less and the days sad
without clemency
and like this sunken and inanimate in muted nights
the moon.
Like this let me be a ship ravaged, lifeless,
let me be like this
on dead sands and in hollow water
let me sleep.
