Sonnet 10 For shame deny that thou bear'st love to any [English translation]

For shame! Admit that you love no one

When you yourself are so much without means

I admit, if you please, that many people love you

But that you love no one is obvious

Because you are so filled with murderous hatred

That you won't mind conspiring against yourself

Seeking to destroy that beautiful house

Which should be your greatest wish to repair!

Oh change your way of thinking, so I can change my opinion!

Should hatred have a better house than gentle love?

Be, as your appearance is, gracious and kind

Or at least be kindhearted to yourself

Make a copy of yourself, for my sake

So that beauty may stay in your children or yourself.
