Though many now are empty
Few still keep their obligation
For technology deemed it so
A reprieve from dutiful solitude
To live alone for often a life
Sacrifice for benevolence
The mariner's preservation so
In the storms, the fears at sea
Round and round, and up
The stairs to tend the light
Tolling a bell in fog to guide
Rang by vigilance chilled, wet
Radio signals by code sent
That made the name known
In a sea dark, and featureless
Where waves conceal perils
Dedicated sentinels certain
A world moving mysteriously
Gave hope to those at sea
To find haven, and refresh
Such strength of character
Duty bound to others unknown
Unlauded by men of the land
In the prayers of lost mariners
