Up in the hills well above our lonely village
Many roses there would bloom
In early morning as birds are singing
I would gladly leave my room
I’ll bring my loved one a lovely flower
From the red field I adore
I’ll know that I am his and he is mine forever more.
As I went down from the hills to our village
Roses in my shiny hair
But then my loved one is not at home
No voices anywhere
There by the river just next to our village
My beloved one had disappeared
He found himself another lover and my heart is sheared.
No, lord oh lord make him come make him stay
Day and night I’m longing to hold him
No, I cannot take a single more day
Lonely roses and he remains away.
