Scow boats were loaded with seatrout,
When Kostya to the port them steered.
And as with seamen he’d go out,
All in the pub for him would cheer.
Above the blue waves seagulls spread wings,
Chestnut trees bloom, all folks rejoice.
Our Konstantin plucks his guitar strings,
And he sings in a quiet voice,
"I won’t tell you for the whole Odessa,
Since it’s just as big as ever seen…
But in Moldavanka and Peresyp
All admire sailor Konstantin”.
Once fisher Sonya grasped her hat brim,
Having moored her boat to the shore.
“All fishers know you”, – she just told him,
“But I have never seen before!”
Lighting his pipe with a long match stick,
Kostya responded with a chill,
"You are an interesting young chick,
But, you see, here is the deal:
I won’t tell you for the whole Odessa,
Since it’s just as big as ever seen…
But in Moldavanka and Peresyp

At seaport taverns folks seep brandy,
Gossip is spread as sailors talk…
“Our Kostya ‘s fallen for that lady”, –
Shouted loaders on the dock.
And as this news at sea they carried,
To spread it fishermen were quick…
And at the wedding they were wearing
Shoes with a very loud squeak.
