The raindrops are playing sonatas
On the piano of soaking wet days,
And downspouts are sounding staccato
With organ-like tones in the haze.
Each year right after November
Imagining orchestral brass
I wait for this wet rainy weather,
I wait and I wait but alas...
Chorus:
They are finally here -
Those September rains
It’s finally here -
The cool rainy autumn
And clouds are hanging
Like long heavy chains and
The month number eight’s gone,
It’s all but forgotten
Though I’m not naïve any longer
I still say let’s wait for the rains!
And hope in me doesn’t get stronger
Like rains years pass, what remains?
They’ll come to an end one day, buddy,
When my blue-eyed slayer comes by
My thousandth rain for somebody
Will be like a baby’s first cry
Chorus.
I wish that my future was known
And could just be read on my palm,
So I would have time to atone
Be grateful, at peace and stay calm.
On second thought – no, I don’t want that,
I’ve never been friends with my fate,
To know the end – I’m beyond that
I’ll carry uncertainty’s weight.
Chorus.
