Salt water surrounded me all my life
From way back in time
I swam for water with my throat dry
The ocean’s great lie
Was you could drown in its illusion
On the ocean floor
The drowned still have that thirst in their eyes
'Cause they drank salt water
And it coursed down through their bloodline
And they drank salt water
Couldn’t tell the truth from the lie
To their sons and daughters
Who they left deaf, dumb and blind
Do they drink salt water?
Do they down it like holy wine?
It’s not surprising that it goes so
We cut-off our nose
In this native bragadocio
But if you think that’s a joke
You might get caught up in that motion
'Cause it looks benign
But when you’re desperate it’s holy wine
'Cause they drank salt water
And it coursed down through their bloodline
And they drank salt water
Couldn’t tell the truth from the lie
To their sons and daughters
Who they left deaf, dumb and blind
Do they drink salt water?
Do they down it like holy wine?
Do they drink salt water?
Do they start to die on the vine?
Do they drink salt water?
Do you see that thirst in their eye?
When I hit that water
I’ll know the truth from the lie
When I hit that water
I’ll know the truth from the lie
I'll know the truth from the lie
I'll know the truth from the lie
I'll know the truth from the lie
I'll know the truth from the lie
