In the district where my childhood passed by,
They were living in a wooden house with a painted top,
Sakız Hanim (Miss Gum) and Mahur Bey (Mister Mahur)
Sakiz Hanim used to have snow white skin and snow white hair
That's why we called her as Sakiz Hanim
She used to play "kemence" with the cotton like hands
Her husband Mahur Bey used to make bones about it a little
Then he too used to accompany her with his "kanun"
Together, they used to play music
In the evenings of summer
The curtains used to be opened
From their weary hands
Melodies used to be scattered around
It has been almost two years
First of all, "kanun" became silent in that old house
And some months later, it was "kemence"
And the curtains of the wooden house with a painted top
are closed to be never opened again
When I heard the rumours about the sale of that house
I went in there, when I was there, on an old couch
there was a humble "kanun"
And the doleful "kemence" that is leaned against the chest of the "kanun"
They seemed to say "don't disturb us"
I couldn't hack it and I walked away
After Mahur Bey went silent, the curtains were closed
That sorrowful melodies are passed away together with Sakız Hanim
