Arguing in carriages is the last thing to do,

When there is nothing more to drink.

But the train keeps going, the bottle is empty

And one feels like talking.

And two people clashed with heart and soul;

The wheels have chased away the sleep.

One of them said, 'Our life is a train'.

The other one said, 'It is a railway platform'.

One of them claimed, 'Our way is clear'.

The other one contradicted, 'Beggars can't be choosers'.

One of them said, 'We are machinists'.

The other one said, 'Passengers'.

One of them said, 'Freedom is our reward:

We are driving the train wherever we want'.

The other one said, 'One shouldn't put on frills.

Just like we get on the train, we will get off it'.

The first one yelled. 'We go wherever we desire,

And we can turn if we want!'

The second one replied that the train would go

Only where the way was paved.

And both of them got off somewhere near Taganrog,

Amid endless fields.

And each of them went their own way,

Just like the train.*
