Straying afar into the clouds
The sun setting the day's pace
Winds blow that sting to see
Tears fall in sodden stillness
No solace there could be
In shadows and its sorrows
A place where a noise, a smell
Returning back, a world to tell
Calamity giving way to calm
Tragedy to transient tranquility
A procession of borne boundless dead
Ever ensuing in censured silence
Heads bowed in shifting somnolence
Sacrificed for freedom's wake
A place where ideals fail us all
Walking the circuit's dismal path
Only to discover the weary way back
To the land where blood flowed
Cries ebbed, and lives ceased
Until all that is left is silence
These worlds are deceptive dualities
Undistinguishable by night and day
The vigilance of every existence
It's merciless denial of slumber
Stealing life's days and joys
There are no tears shed in envy
For tired eyes that saw too much
The heart that aches so very deeply
The mind that clenches crippling memories
And every breath affirms this pain
No mother to sing soothing songs
Only bottles for forgetting the thirsts
Substances sought to numb the pain
If only for a while, just compounding
Life's struggles, still more complicating
Questioning all that is said sacred
Surviving one inferno for another
Lost as a lone sentry steadily standing
On a perimeter without relief, nor rest
Outnumbered and overwhelmed, waiting...
Straying afar into the clouds
The sun setting the day's pace
Winds blow that sting to see
Tears fall in sodden stillness
No solace there could be
