Look, there goes passing the procession
Dragging through not even like a snake through the ground
The people in it that go on passing
Believe in the things there of the sky
The women singing, throwing verses
The men listening, throwing their hats
They live making penance here on the Earth
Awaiting what Jesus promised them
And Jesus promised a better life
For who lives in this world without love
Only after giving up the body to the ground
Only after dying here in this wilderness
I am also on the side of Jesus
Only I think that he forgot
To say that on the Earth the people need
To arrange a little way of life
Many people hoist themselves up to be God
And promise many things for the backwoods
That they'll give a dress to Maria
And they promise a farmstead to João
The year enters, the year leaves, and nothing comes
My backwoods continues neglected
But if Jesus exists in the firmament
Here on this Earth this must come to an end
