In the faraway clouds of steel
There’s a trace of a cold glow.
The long night is ending,
That one, in which we were born.
The centuries’ childhood is ending,
The road back is farther and farther away,
[The road] to the abandoned Garden of Eden
That no one needs now.
And this awakening
Still scares one’s heart,
But, now, there’s nothing to change,
The thread of time cannot be revisited.
Echo of the bygone epoch
Is melting in the heavy air.
We’ll never be back there,
The Lost Son will never return to his Father…

In yet timid light beams,
It’s already hard to recognize
Everything that has seemed so ordinary
Just a minute ago.
Meanwhile, the shards are burning
In rockets’ blue fire,
[The shards] of all the things which have been the cause and meaning of everything
For two thousand years.
Our world turned out to be much more complicated
Than our childhood fairytales spoke about it,
And now, we can see ourselves in the mirror
The way we are, in our true colours.
And one wants to lock all the windows,
To leave, to escape into the shadows,
And to keep their childhood values,
As if everything was always the same.
***
But now there’s day on the Earth,
And the mystic fear is in the past,
And, with the help of nuclear bombs,
The hell has been turned into ashes.
But the world turned out to be much more wise
Than hundreds of yesterday’s ideas,
And, once we’ve seen the Earth in the window,
We’ve become comparable to it.
And this awakening
Makes us rethink everything,
That’s a pity, though, that
There, the past will tell us nothing about the future.
Echo of the bygone epoch
Is melting in the fresh air.
We’ll never be back there,
Never from now on, never ever, ever!..

In the faraway clouds of steel
There’s a trace of frightening eternity.
It is in every Earth’s grain
And in the light of faraway comets.
But, today, these cold heights
Feel somewhat warmer.
We’ve grown up now,
We’ve become comparable to them…
