Though maligned as a breed
They are ambiguously known
Terrier and bulldog mixes so
Ferocity known, consequences
Owners that do not train well
That do not interact positively
Want no more than status
A shield for their fear of all
And so with scrub brush fur
They stand freezing in the cold
Unfed, and unloved fate often
Unattended until turmoil sets in
The pounds and kennels full
Of rejects made and strayed
With a final fate sealed sure
By law or by delinquency got
Put to fight and die a wager
Owners who are taskmasters
Their gladitorial purpose so
For about to die their life ends
The loser never returns home
Nor has a choice exploited so
Unpredictable inmates kept
Frequent wards of the court
No leash, no muzzle, fate shows
To take vital life carelessly
Unamendable, sad results
Injured or dead, dying, done
The wrong name, it attracts
Foolish owners availed so
In judicial ties and liabilities
That they cannot answer to
Perhaps in time a faded fashion
Though there will always be
Weak men unable to deal with
The problems that they feed
