There's no eyes more beautiful
than those of my homeland,
than those black eyes of a Guadalajaran1.
Looks that kill, passionate eyes;2
they are night when asleep3
and light when they see. 4
In the moonlit night;
the perfume of orange blossoms.
Stars in the sky
and warmth in the air,
and behind the fence
covered by flowers,
awaits a maiden
trembling with love, yes.
Upon gazing into those eyes
that restlessly wait,
the white stars
turn dark,
the air turns to sweeter aromas 5
and all of the flowers sign for love.
For a gaze
from eyes so lovely,
stars and flowers
suffer from anger,
the air sighs,
the sky turns dark
and in the soul wanders
a complaint of love.
