It may be that I spent what few tears I had
To irrigate the valley of sevdah and blues
The world is a sad place, there will never be justice
For those who want only to live and work
And to love and laugh at everything like in a joke
And I wonder if there's any point in making children
Bringing them into a world where life and freedom
Are commodities that some magnate will sell
And these old melodies bring up memories
Of pure nostalgia, and I don't know what hit me
My old man with sideburns, my mom with a huge perm
My sister, and me all covered in ice cream
And everything is far away and mysterious
But to a child, everything looks glorious
I know, not everything was perfect then
But it seems to me, much nicer
And these rain drops seem to whisper "never again"
Because everything passes, it remains only inside us
In our hearts, in our minds and in the photo album
Every picture tells a story so that I will never forget
The smiling faces of some old friends
Some are gone, only shadows are left
A part of me must have disappeared along with them
But it comes back with rain and the south wind
Some old song, nostalgia and sorrow
Sometimes I wonder if it really had to happen this way
And I think, it really had to, when this world is cursed
Good people always get the wrong end
And that's why I hope that there's heaven and hell
Some higher court, a divine justice
To judge and punish every one of those bastards
Who wished for war and wished for blood
But let him who is without sin cast the first stone
It's ironic really, that I'm quoting Christ
Being one of those raised in a family of atheists
In the dark, in a mixed marriage
In some faraway country, now only in the air
(And that's where the stork brought me)
Yes, not to hate, and to be honest, sincere and loyal
But the difference between good and evil
I didn't learn from a friar, imam or a priest
When those that fell from the pear tree came to power
God's people gave their blessings to rifles
They sent sheep to their deaths for their only god
For the madness of their ideologue
And when hate reigns, reason isn't the remedy
And madness always changes the course of history
And writes out a new, bloody page
In a land of peasants in the mountainous Balkans
That's why I'm flying high above the tormented ground
Far above conceptions of good and evil
High up, towards the sun, to the heavens
(Where SMS messages mingle)
I'm stepping out of this time
And diving into a long gone, forgotten dream
Into a better day, full of laughter and jokes
Where people are happy, and their children too
They're gazing into tomorrow with smiling faces
They're full of hope, and in that world of justice
Equality, brotherhood and liberty
(The world of love is where my thoughts are leading me)
And I still believe that on this planet
One day all people will be able to live in happiness
Reason, love and knowledge will build paradise
And know this - the song won't end with irony
