Though it's no carnival,
I have an urge to dance
And I'll dance with her till dawn.
It's not a party
but I am having fun.
Dreamless nights, sleepless days.
She ain't no mistress
but I sleep with her,
Though I face their laughter and their scorn.
She's so tired and drunk
and that's all the time,
Therefore do not,
Don't ask me any more..
Don't ask me why I remain by her side.
Don't ask me why not by the side of another.
Don't ask me why I think
that there's no other place for me.
Don't ask me what is it that I still see in her
Don't ask me why don't I see it in another.
Don't ask me why I still crave
To keep falling asleep and waking up in her. 1
Those filthy stations at which
we meet again,
those crowds there, cursing silently.
That drunkard mumbling in his sleep,
that as long as we're alive, she lives as well. 2
Don't ask me,
Don't ask me,
what do I see in her
Don't ask me what is it that I still see in her
Don't ask me why don't I see it in another.
Don't ask me why I still crave
To keep falling asleep and waking up in her.
Don't ask me why I remain by her side.
Don't ask me why not by the side of another.
Don't ask me why I think
that there's not me other place for me.
Don't ask me why I remain by her side.
Don't ask me why not by the side of another.
Don't ask me why I think
that there's no other place for me.
Don't ask me what is it that I still see in her
Don't ask me why don't I see it in another.
Don't ask me why I still crave
To keep falling asleep and waking up in her.
...don't ask...
...don't ask...
...don't ask...
...don't ask...
...don't ask... why I remain by her side
...don't ask... why not by the side of another
...don't ask... what do I still see in her
...don't ask... why don't I see it in another
...don't ask... what do I still see in her
...don't ask... why don't I see it in another...
1. It may sound strange but it is due to this self-explanatory (the title) metaphor. It sounds kinda off in polish as well, although a bit better due to an untranslatable syntactic quality. 2. This line refers to the first line of "Mazurek Dąbrowskiego" or "Poland Is Not Yet Lost", the national anthem of Poland.
