Looking across the lighted surface
A sky of black, stars twinkling, alit
Its stellar sphere is contrast uniform
Surface shades of black and white
Silent and stoic land of rock and dust
Pock-marked as if doodlebugs thrived
Craters varied by the meteor strikes
Great events gone by, long, long ago
Voyagers intruded upon a sea of tranquility
And their ambitions universal come
Then to depart quickly in novel loss
Was it because it was there
A race for the moon and ideaology
That the comptetions of Earth come
Nations spent so much effort and men
To gain acclaim that in the end
In benevolence in mankind's behalf
"We came in peace for all mankind"
And there in silent space in dust
Lies a relic of a nation's pride
Remants litter the surface sterile
A legacy to the ambition of men
