From New York to Tokyo,
everything is the same everywhere.
We take the same subway
to reach the same suburbs.
Everybody falling in line
The neon lights replace
sunlight at night,
and listening to the same radios
we all dance to the same tunes
The day is grey, the night is blue.
In the cities of the year 2000,
life will be much easier.
We'll all have a number on our back
and a star tatooed on our skin.
We'll happily follow the herd,
in the cities of the year 2000.
Mirabelle1 or Roissy2
everything is the same everywhere,
all around the earth.
We take the same charter flights
to go where the sky is a deeper blue.
When we won't be able
to find sunlight anymore,
we'll set off
to Mars or Jupiter,
everybody falling in line.
In the cities of the year 2000,
life will be much easier.
We'll all have a number on our back
and a star tatooed on our skin.
We'll happily follow the herd,
in the cities of the year 2000.
Monopolis
There will be no more stangers
We'll all be stangers.
Will we still walk hand in hand
like in 1980?
When our children will be twenty,
we will be from another time,
the time before Monopolis.
I picture myself sitting on a bench,
all alone in the middle of Monopolis.
1. Don't really know what city that is supposed to be. Maybe Mirable in Quebec?2. The small town where Paris-Charles de Gaulle international airport is located. The name could designate the town or the airport.
