In their honour the dedicated wept
In their memory the vigilence kept
The nights are long the dawn does break
To find us all again still awake
With wounds without and so within
Our stares out into the deafening din
We keep our watch for they are gone
For those who's missions are now done
But the trivial and the trite
Mocking the their lifelong plight
To attempt to gain an attentive crowd
Mindless inexperience shouts so loud
They ran away and sat right down
To remain there still, safe and sound
It's a truly shame there should be
And woe unrestrained n'er to see
For those who would ply and poke
In a land that they long forsook
Then to belittle, babble, and brim
Where ignorance breeds dark and dim
We light the candles to speak true
We stand side by side, we always do
They live with us, they do not die
Because they sacrificed, still we cry
For memories so endearing, so alive, so glad
For their departure, their mortal end, so sad
The worst, and the best to keep for life
In silent moments, far beyond all the strife
We stand proud to have done, to have been
Others bow low, yet undone, and unseen
In silent reverence, or in memorable words
We will prevail against the mocking birds
For those without honour, can know no shame
They perch all alone, no song, no name
