Ämmät [English translation]

The old hags stand by the gate with sheaths1 on the belt yes

And they don't let the boys in during day or at night yes

The old hags of this village, shaggy tails, cuppers and witches yes

I just sing and what can they do about me yes

The old hags of this village should be put to a big sleigh2 yes

A gypsy to be the driver and a barking dog in front yes

The old hags of this village should be put to a big chimneyless hut3 yes

Heat it up with pinewood4 and let them suffocate in smoke yes

A big pine cone should be put to the mouths of this village's old hags yes

So that they would turn into squirrels and climb a tree yes

That white cow moos behind tiiliruukki5 yes

Love will light up today, and tomorrow it'll die down already yes

They make the poor me sing and scream like a madwoman yes

They don't sing because their mouths would wear out yes

Hey you others, sing too, I can't sing anymore yes

And it's not worth singing to them anymore yes

Gee, you damn thing when you promised to take me yes

You rustled like a rat behind sheds last summer yes

I caught a cat in the evening and said to it yes

The wooers of this village's girls are Hermanni and Ville yes

I have been thinking of you, oh if I could get you yes

Oh if I could have you, young boy, forever yes

I have been thinking of you, oh if I could get you yes

Oh if I could have you, young boy, forever yes

1. a sheath of a knife2. Apparently "reslareki" is a sleigh used for transporting loads.3. "Savutupa" literally is a chimneyless hut where people once lived. (savu = smoke, tupa = hut)4. "Tervaspuu" actually refers to pinewood which is used while making tar.5. Tiiliruukki is an area in Pori but it might also refer to a facility where they make bricks - I don't know if there is a good translation for the word "ruukki".
