Sitting on a bench for five minutes with you
And watching people when they’re passing
Talking to you about good times that are gone or will return
While holding your little fingers in my hand
Then feeding some silly pigeons
Giving them some pretend kicks
And hearing your laugh which cracks the walls
Which knows above all how to heal my wounds
Telling you a little about when I was young
The amazing sweets that we nicked from the shopkeeper
Car-en-Sac and Minto, toffee for a franc
And the Mistral Gagnants
Walking again in the rain for five minutes with you
And watching life as it goes by
Telling you about the Earth whilst gazing at you adoringly
Talking to you a little bit about your mother
And jumping in puddles to make her grumble
Ruining our shoes and having a good laugh
And hearing your laugh like hearing the sea
Stopping and setting off again backwards
Telling you all about the Carambars of yesteryear & the Coco Boers
And the real Roudoudous which cut our lips
And buggered our teeth
And the Mistral Gagnants
Sitting on a bench for five minutes with you.
Watching the sun fade away
Talking to you about the good times that are gone and I don’t care
Saying to you that the baddies, they’re not us
That if I am crazy, it’s only about your eyes
As they have the advantage of being two
And hearing your laughter fly away as high
As bird calls do
Telling you lastly that you must love life
And love it even if time is a murderer
And takes away with him the children’s laughs
And the Mistral Gagnants
And the Mistral Gagnants
