June in 86
Our Sierra was almoust new
Dad fueled the car, mom was packing the lunch
I was already sitting in the back seat
With a wide smile, the seat belt tied
Dingo was singing "Nahkatakkinen tyttö" (1)
Grandpa told stories of Continuation War
Of that corporal Rokka (2)
I didn't understand anything back then
I just enjoyed the holiday
Dad please let me drive the cottage road
I promise I'll carry the water to sauna
I remember the pebbles and stumps of this gravel road
In my mind I was Henri Toivonen
A rally idol of little boys
Dad laughed, mom was afraid to look
The summer was over and I was told
There wont be any trips to Evitskog anymore
Parents broke up and the cottage was sold
Yesterday I went and drove the cottage road
It took less time than I remembered
The familiar paths are replaced with black surfaces
Neither is grandpa telling war stories anymore
He's pushing up daisies in Honkanummi
Now I understand the story better
And appreciate his deeds
Dad please let me drive the cottage road
I promise I'll carry the water to sauna
I remember the pebbles and stumps of this gravel road
In my mind I was Henri Toivonen
A rally idol of little boys
Dad laughed, mom was afraid to look
