I see how the candles burn out,
I see how every life comes to an end.
The brilliant flares that shone for us
will end, they all burn out.
I see how life drains away,
how the time is always too short.
The endless path that should be my life
ends, it shall also reach its end.
I stood by the roaring sea in the night
And looked out into endless space.
And I saw a faint but distinct glow;
I saw that new stars are born
So although it was night it was still not dark;
Out there new lights were lit.
We are a second in the current of time,
But our life is irreplaceable.
So before my flame goes out,
And the twilight hour is silent,
I want to be a torch for those who follow us
a time, a light on their path;
A time, a light in their life.
