Your eyes are sponges
Your hands are prisons
From which your lovers escape
And only leave their shadows behind
Freddy Krueger1
Scratches at your window
Dyed black doves
Ride nightmare horses
And if you close your eyes
Without a doubt, you’ll wake up
In the place you want
Your little Shangri-La
Chase them, chase them
In a memory lapse
Go on, make yourself at home
Your little Shangri-La
In the long corridors
Of a little, porcelain white pharmacy
The music is atrocious, out of breath
And you are invisible
You’re not invincible like the insects
Chirping at the door to your room
Where you squeeze that pillow tightly
So that it turns into somebody
And if you close your eyes
Without a doubt, you’ll wake up
In the place you want
Your little Shangri-La
Chase them, chase them
In a memory lapse
Go on, make yourself at home
Your little Shangri-La
1. Les griffes de la nuit is the title of Nightmare on Elm Street in French, which literally means "the claws of the night." To make the meaning of these two lines more easily and immediately comprehensible to native English speakers, I chose to use Freddy Krueger's name rather than a literal translation of the movie title or the film's original name.
