Les beaux jours approchent [English translation]

Smiles launched by the carefree sling

To star studded inky nights celebrating the silence

Spring is in the air 1

Summer’s parking its Rolls in the village square at Fillols 2

The children clap their hands, there’s no school tomorrow

Spring is in the air

The outstretched hands of a kid coming home

From a courtroom battle, chewed up by the dogs

The echo of a sardana 3 that rises with the night

And licks the feet of a sleepy old timer

Spring is in the air

Diamonds shining once again in the eyes

Of beautiful girls who make themselves up to brighten our days

Spring is in the air

Breasts tripping over their too-small coverings

The desire to drink one’s fill there like at the golden jug of life

Spring is in the air

Radiant smiles like magic butterflies

Alight on the lips of gorgeous darlings

Spring is in the air

A boat that arrives and plays the trombone 4

And the white horses of spume spurred on by the wind

Spring is in the air

The cold no longer bites the homeless like a pitbull

The fear of the bailiff no longer unfastens their blouse at rifle point 5

Spring is in the air

A wind that carries us, neither too cold nor too warm

Towards this bar that wakes up when it’s time for aperitifs

Friends who always push us to go a bit further

At the very end of the evening towards a glass of wine

Spring is in the air

An love affair picked from the wrong pocket 6

And which no longer hurts even if it turned ugly

Spring is in the air

A suffocated flower that was scrunched up

In a wedding dress and that comes back to us with it’s eighteen years in hand

Spring is in the air

1. Literally of course "The beautiful days are coming 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fillols3. A type of Catalan circle dance, or the music that accompanies it. This whole song rather resembles one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-gWcGgN9mI4. A trombone is typically part of the band for a Sardana5. Fear of being thrown out in the street is considerably reduced in the warm months 6. Attempting my own bit of word play here. It really just mean a bad bit of luck, a bad choice - but the pick/pocket allusion was irresistible
