You left me with a King cake
It was for three, I didn't touch it
I put on the crown, moaning
Because I was the only person alive
Able to find the magic charm1
Given that you'd just left me
I'm a king
A king in pyjamas
Who got lost at home
The ghosts were dancing and making fun of me
Thank you for having thought, in your way, of me
My paper crown, I kept it on all day
It's easy to be happy with very little when you have nothing left
Then you telephoned, we nearly laughed2
As you hadn't completely gone
I'm a king
A king in pyjamas
Who got lost at home
Between the bedroom and the dining room
On the stairs, lost
What am I the king of, if not a Galilee that I'm going to have to invent
Between the bedroom and the dining room
I'm a king in pyjamas
All my kingdom for a King cake.
1. In France, a charm is hidden in the Galette des Rois. The person to find it is king for the day and wears a paper crown.2. I'm assuming this is "we" as in him and the ghosts, but it could be him and the person on the phone. I was tempted to translate it very literally as "one", which would fit with him being a king, but that would be quite different from the original.
