Very often, when the night falls

A fairy takes me away:

The beauty of your eyes

- Deep black on a white sea -

Which are always uncertain in their glance.

And thus, jealous, I undo

Songs that could bring me close to her. But...

The poetry in your eyes,

I know that I won't be able to write it;

Every verse that I could find

Would die on me on the sheet of paper

Out of sorrow, for it wouldn't be truthful enough.

Yet I know that I mustn't grow tired

Of searching that friendly language

That could draw me closer to the poetry in your eyes,

Even if I cannot write it.

But thus, I will fight with myself,

Always waiting for dawn,

Eager to take your glance by surprise.
