In a golden cage
Hanging from a balcony
There was a calandra lark
Singing her pain
Until a little sparrow
Came to her cage
"If you can get me out,
I'll leave with you"
And the poor liitle sparrow
Fell in love with her
And the poor soul, as best he could
Broke the wires
And the ungrateful calandra lark
After he got her out
As soon as she saw herself free
She flew, she flew and she flew!
The poor sparrow
He still followed her
To see if she would fulfil
What she promised him
The wicked calandra lark
Replied this to him:
"I don't know you
Nor have I been a prisoner"
The little sparrow, sad,
Then went back
He stopped at an apple tree
He cried, he cried and he cried
And now in that cage
Hanging from the balcony
The little sparrow is found
Singing his passion
In a golden cage
Hanging from a balcony
There was a calandra lark
Singing her pain
Until a little sparrow
Came to her cage
"If you can get me out,
I'll leave with you"
And the poor liitle sparrow
Fell in love with her
And the poor soul, as best he could
Broke the wires
And the ungrateful calandra lark
After he got her out
As soon as she saw herself free
She flew, she flew and she flew!
