L'oiseau et l'enfant [English translation]

The same way a child with shining eyes

Who sees the birds fly by in the distance does

The same way the blue bird that is flying over the world does

Go look at how beautiful the world, the world is

The boat that is dancing on the waves - it's beautiful

It's drunk with life, love and wind

The song that is born from the waves - it's beautiful

It's left behind on the white sand

It's white - innocence, the blood of the poet

Who invents love while singing

In a way that makes life dress up festively

And the night change into day

A day in life when dawn breaks

To wake up the city whose eyes are still tired

When mornings lay the dreams bare

To give us a world of love

You are that1 love, I am that love

You are that bird, I am that child

I am just a girl from the shadow

Who sees the evening star shine

You, my star, who follows me around

Go ahead and light up my dark sun

They're dark - misery, mankind and war

Who believe themselves in control of time

The land of love has no boundaries

To those who've got the heart of a child

The same way a child with shining eyes

Who sees the birds fly by in the distance does

The same way the blue bird that is flying over the world does

Go look at how beautiful the world, the world is

You are that love, I am that love

You are that bird, I am that child

You are that bird, I am that child

1. In the French original, it's actually "the love"; however I've chosen to use demonstrative pronouns here in order to make it clearer that the love, the bird and the child are those mentioned in the lyrics before. The singer first generally describes the child, the bird and the love in the verses just to point out during the chorus that this very love is actually inside of us. Havin been a Eurovision addict for quite some time now I've realised that many fellow Eurovision fans have never come across the fact that this song is actually a peace anthem.
