Beneath the pillow

is a deep well

in which dwell the souls that love you.

They fight every night

in the dark with the pipes

to reach high up next to the prince.

They speak to you when you sleep

they put you in a garden

With St John and lotuses, and with winter flowers.

And when it upsets you

For the bad things you have done

A wave of poisonous things gives you an amulet.

An amulet of silk

which in it they have kept

straw from the earth that has remained untrodden.

They also come to me

the forgotten faces

empty and pale

from before, and from after.

They hold my hand

On the journey, on the ambush

In the deep dream. They are few they are many.

Inside the well, beneath the pillow,

Souls are thrown in

My sun come out now!
