Hello, how's it going?
Are you alright, man?
Did you know that
Tonight I'll be performing for the aperitivo 1
I perform for it every Friday
You know, that cool, trendy pub
That one, I always perform there for the aperitivo
At seven sharp, I begin, excited, and play
You should see what type of people are there
Cool guys, they dance while I play
Sorry, I mean, maybe I misunderstood
What do you mean when you say that you'll be playing tonight?
'Cause, well, you know, you play two records in sync
Only in sync you know, you press play and then begin
'Cause if playing two songs in sync equals playing
I could easily walk the runway
For Armani, I don't know, Dolce and Gabbana 2
Or I could tell everyone Canalis3 loves me
You don't play records, they are already played 4
You don't play records, they are already played
Someone already played when they were recorded
You don't play records
You don't play records
You don't play records, they are already played
You don't play records, they are already played
Someone already played when they were recorded
You don't play records
You don't play records
Hey, brother! Did you know?
I would have never guessed
They hired me to be the DJ in a club
When I start playing, the whole club goes nuts
And the girls start to do their silky moves while I play
Tonight, if you feel like it, come around to say hello
Take it easy, no problem, I'll let you in
You know, since I started playing there, I'm basically in charge
They shower me with money to go and play
Still, I say, try to explain it to me
What do you mean when you say that you'll be playing tonight?
'Cause, well, you know, you play two records in sync
Only in sync you know, you press play and then begin
'Cause if playing two songs in sync equals playing 5
I could easily walk the runway
For Armani, I don't know, Dolce and Gabbana
Or I could tell everyone Canalis loves me
You don't play records, they are already played
You don't play records, they are already played
Someone already played when they were recorded
You don't play records
You don't play records
You don't play records, they are already played
You don't play records, they are already played
Someone already played when they were recorded
You don't play records
You don't play records
Hey, hey, hey, did you know my dear DJ, when we play we do it like this, listen
Hey, musician, you got it wrong
I fill the dancefloor with this scratch
Ok, ok, DJ, I'm in your heart
Though I can't help but think that
Think that, think that, think that
You don't play records, they are already played
You don't play records, they are already played
Someone already played when they were recorded
You don't play records
You don't play records
You don't play records, they are already played
You don't play records, they are already played
Someone already played when they were recorded
You don't play records
You don't play records
1. "Aperitivo" is kind of like the happy hour in the UK, except it's often more of a all-you-can-eat thing, not only related to alcohol - and it doesn't strictly last an hour. I honestly didn't know how to translate it and felt it was better to leave it as it was.2. Quite obviously, these are fashion brands.3. Elisabetta Canalis is an Italian actress and model. Putting the article 'la' before the surname/name is a slang thing people here do, mostly Northerners, though.4. The sentence is impersonal,
a more literal translation could be 'records are not to be played', I think, but it was even worse than using 'you', so, yeah. It's a play on words on the fact that when you play a record you don't actually *play* it yourself, since someone already did when it was recorded, implying that anyone could do it since it takes little to no effort to put on a record and "play" it. It is explained in the following lines.5. Equals performing.
