We went down to Yeruham to drink an afternoon can
in the dusty commercial center
the pleasure starts with a slow considered and measured walk
like a subdued turbo
The muscles worn out from the long ride
releasing in pleasure throughout all the body
twisting and stretching and made hard in the wind
that lashes dust and heat on the face
And the whole point
is to drink something cold
in the heart of the desert
The town seems to be make itself appear asleep
even this does not make us laugh
crossing the square like during a private celebration
leaving it to the sun that will be bothersome
A burst of tambourine drumming stops us all as one
a thread and a half from the shade
standing in the sun not moving, not twitching, waiting
a thread and a half from the shade
and the whole point...
We still are standing not twitching, not moving
a thread and a half from the shade
when a local girl suddenly stares even in the sun
and here in our ears says
Look at see these "Gary Coopers"
these "Clint Eastwoods", wannabes, as if mocking the burning heat
The time has come to remove your long tongue
from the culture of the west
And the whole point...
A thread and a half from the shade, we wander about
and move very slowly
a considered crossing of the square of the dusty commercial center
and geting back into the car
Afternoon in the Negev, what now? where shall we go?
clearing the throat
maybe will will succeed in killing1a small evening Turkish coffee
in Mitzpe Ramon!2
And the whole point...
1. obtaining and drinking2. a town in southern Israel where they most likely will get served a coffee
