Here I was born, and run through the streets!
I know every face, every house and every store!
I must go; know every pigeon by name.
Thumb out, I wait for a glamorous woman with a fast car.
The sun is blinding; everything flies past.
And the world slowly becomes smaller behind me.
Still, the world before me is made for me!
I know she is waiting and I pick her up!
I have the day on my side - I have the wind behind me!
A female choir by the roadside sings for me!
I lean back and look into deep blue,
close the eyes and just walk straight ahead.
And at the end of the street stands a house by the lake.
Orange tree leaves lie on the way.
I have 20 children and my wife is beautiful.
All drop by, I don't ever need to leave.
I search for new countries with unknown streets,
strange faces, no-one knows my name!
Everyone wins the game with marked cards.
Everyone loses - God has a hard left hook.
I dig up treasures from snow and sand.
And women rob me of my sense!
Still sometime I will be pursued by luck.
And return with both pockets full of gold.
I invite the old pals and relations.
And all start to cry with joy.
We barbecue, the mothers cook and we quaff schnapps.
And celebrate every night for a week.
And the moon shines bright on my house by the lake.
Orange tree leaves lie on the way.
I have 20 children, my wife is beautiful.
Everyone drops by, I never need to leave.
Here I was born, here I will be buried.
Have deaf ears, a white beard and sit in the garden.
My hundred grandchildren play cricket on the lawn.
When I think of it, actually I can scarcely wait..
