I'm out of the tunnel-el-el-el
of having fun-un-un.
I'm out of the tunnel-el-el-el
of having fun-un-un.
When I go out and get bored
I'm very happy-y-y.
When I go out and get bored
I'm much happier-er-er.
Than you who spend wages,
crammed inside beautiful places,
among asses on podiums,
slave to horrible beats,2
you sip brandy and get smashed,
dandy, you can't understand me,
listen, you don't get offended
if I tell you that you're trendy.
Take me, for example:
I don't pull my hair out for a entertainment temple;3
since I'm a friend of Baldan Bembo,
I'm a "silence which can turn into music"
if I lace the track crookedly on every tempo I misfrequence.4
I test my car radio,
I stay inside my car, cautiously,
face-to-face with a focaccia bread,
not a lavish meal at all.
Hey, master builder, with good labourers I'm rebuilding
the river banks of a day at the margins of the disco
and I'm astonished
that they join the banquet I'm setting up,
for then they mix up Brachetto wine and I don't understand
how they end up talking about Jeeg Robot
and The Streets of San Francisco.
I'm out of the tunnel-el-el-el
of having fun-un-un.
I'm out of the tunnel-el-el-el
of having fun-un-un.
When I go out and get bored
I'm very happy-y-y.
When I go out and get bored
I'm much happier-er-er.
I like movies, and I like them a lot,
that's why they call me an old man;
is it a young people thing that of hairspraying and gel-styling
in front of the mirror?
I'm old, full stop,
and, prompted by your greasy tuft:
I don't fit in there, just like when I bugger a Smurf.
(«ooh, I hate Caparezza...»)5
I snort if I think about the typical evenings,
of the kind «What shall we do?».
I have a second-hand Tipo6
which, works as a pub, a disco and a couch for me;
I'm here, like a skylark, this is my branch.
Immune to the rubbish of entertainment TV shows,
I fly, featherless,
in a comic book in the lamp light.
No contest:
it's enough to have a fermenting beer,
and a girlfriend
rapturous about a new position.
Big boobs turn me on,
indecent girls delight me.
I'm hungry? No problem,
if I fancy a pizza for dinner.
Theme parties are welcome,
salami in thick slices,7
VHS8 and, if that's not enough, turn the volume up!
I'm out of the tunnel-el-el-el
of having fun-un-un.
I'm out of the tunnel-el-el-el
of having fun-un-un.
When I go out and get bored
I'm very happy-y-y.
When I go out and get bored
I'm much happier-er-er.
la-la-la...
«Meeting, arguing, exchanging opinions,
people who are made of names and surnames.
Come here9, gentlemen, for here is the good wine,
the pages of the book and the melodies of sound.
We live of memories, gentlemen, and of games,
of sincere hugs, of kisses and bonfires,
of every moment, sad or funny,
and not of sadly funny moments.»
(...I'd like to do it again...)
1. The tunnel della droga {tunnel of drugs} is the downward spiral followed by drug addicts. If you manage to get clean again, you say you're "out of the tunnel".
In this song, though, the "tunnel" is that of the divertimentificio {factory of fun}, i.e. the pressure that society puts on everyone to follow some "canonical" ways of having fun in your spare time: discos, booze, drugs, etc.
Caparezza doesn't accept this homogenization; he wants to be able to have fun in other ways.
Instead of having fun with booze, discos, posers, he prefers a movie, a book, a pizza and beer, a girl.2. He's happier than people who go to the disco, spend lots of money to be all packed up inside this "beautiful place", among podium dancers and terrible music.3. It's like having fun is a religion, and discoteques are temples of such a religion.4. This is a quotation from the song Amico è {Friend is} by Dario Baldan Bembo:
"L'amico è / qualcosa che più ce n'è meglio è, / è un silenzio che può diventare musica / da cantare in coro io con te"
{A friend is / something that the more the better, / he's a silence which can turn into music / to sing in chorus, you and me."
His style is quite unique, so his rhymes are "lopsided", "askew", and his tempo is "out of tune", "out of frequency".5. Sentirsi stretto {feel tight} = be uneasy, feel out of place.
Here, buggering the Grouchy Smurf is used as a metaphor of a "tight" place.6. Tipo is an old car model by Fiat.7. There are two opposing factions of people, when it comes to the proper way to eat salami: those who prefer thin slices, and those who prefer thick slices. Seriously.8. VHS is an old magnetic tape support for movies.9. Venghino is a common, ungrammatical way to say "Come here" politely (it should be "Vengano"), to exhort customers to come to your stand/place and look at your merchandise.
