Yet once again
The call goes out
Unknown reason to us
To climb hastily aboard
In red, with flashing lights
On a single purpose
To extend and prolong lives,
Their properties preserving
To venture forth in an unknown quest
Perhaps in false pretense
Brought by selfish soul
A purpose perverted
For thrill and consequence
Years ago the chief was lost
By station's drive
To a false alarm
His life a traded treachery
This man benevolent, betrayed
Why then are we to be pawns
Of insurance and suit scams
And impatient, inconsiderate men
Who wish to dodge lobby's wait
Endangering all...
In needless display
Underminding a noble cause
So much so as to harden
The compassionate man
To a sinister cynic
Speaking only of 'us' and 'them'
Taking sides in competition
Do not let daily faulted ways
Of distracted driving
Find you in glaring lights
Without purpose, and unprepared
For men mount regrets
Of ventures mistaken
Often needlessly given
Needlessly borne
On a false alarm
