The seventh and the ninth
Letters of the Greek alphabet
Seemingly sisters in transition
They brought forth devastation
First Eta, then Iota came too
In their wake lies catastrophe
Where crops were once ready
Now lagoons have washed o'er
Lahars have swept down swift
Interring all in its perishing path
Livestock drowned in the swells
That men would go hungry then
A land already held by COVID-19
Famine and disease will come
In the wake of massive chaos
Between the Atlantic and Pacific
That region of indigence still
Their help cannot find paths in
Where the tides wash away roads
The people must help themselves
Eta and Iota teach of hardship
They give strength to those yet
That struggle to survive onward
Persistent in adversity with faith
That a relief will one day come
