She gets up in the shadows
Since her bedroom is dark this morning
It’s early
She puts on her coat
And leaves her building
It’s still dark out
She heads down the boulevard
And goes on her way
The bus driver switches on his headlights for her
And smiles
She watches the countryside go by
As she drifts away from the city
She feels good, driving nowhere
She has lost her memory
Lost in a dream, a vast emptiness consumes her
She goes on her way
The bus pulls up at the beach amidst a thundershower
And she gets off
Standing barefoot in the sand, she looks out onto the ocean with a blank expression
For a moment, she thinks of her children
Recalling images from the past like an old film
And then nothing more
