You are young and full of dreams
And talk a lot about politics.
At the word "Peace" or "Equality"
A gleam is in his eyes.
And you clench your fists
If you ever see injustice.
You say all the trend words
Which you read in the books.
But there's one thing you forgot:
A hand is no fist
(no fist, no fist, no fist)
You see hunger, you see misery,
You want to do something about it.
You see people that are not free
And their suffering doesn't let you rest.
That's why you speak of violence,
Every option seems right to you;
And yet you forget one thing completely:
Any kind of hatred is bad.
How can you miss:
A hand is no fist
(no fist, no fist, no fist)
A hand is no fist
And you don't build a life on violence.
So open your fist,
Only then I can shake hands with you.
A hand is no fist
And nobody can live off hatred;
If you only build on fists,
There won't ever be a better world.
A hand can plant trees
And sow wheat grains,
Hands can build bridges,
Hands can create you a home.
A hand can caress,
It leads the one who is helpless;
A hand can say tenderly
That you're not alone.
It's easy to understand:
A hand is no fist
