Over and over in placid dreams
The violent ones less frequent
The calm of paradise overtaking
Never existing in that reality
It returns and resounds again
A world once fraught with fears
Living on a life's edge teetering
Balanced on a precipice edge
Where existence and oblivion
Meet to choose mortal fate
On awakening tethered still
An overwhelming uncertainty
It dwells within my very being
A recurring question asked
Am I really alive, or is this a dream
