As long as I may live
I will remember before my eyes
The hour, the day and the moment
When they put you into my arm
Tinily and warmly for the first time
And into my heart as well
For just one moment
I understood the secret
And you were the answer to all questions
About the sense and the senselessness of the world
About the hope that keeps us up
In spite of all the obligations we endure
Not even a dozen breathings old
Still you had so much power
And all guidance for my life
You've had your place in here for so long
And you were able to take away
Or give anew its meaning
Never before in my life
I realized our powerlessness so clearly
All we can do is hope and fear
We're standing around helplessly
And aren't any good, but for silently Receiving this present gratefully
So I held you and it was accomplished
The long journey through the night
From the clear origin of all things
Did I cry or did I laugh
I felt as if around us tenderly
A breeze of fortune went through the room
Thas was when I understood the world
When I saw the cards of life
And I was part of the hour of creation
Once in life I could see widely
Over our own tinyness
Into the infinite round of the world
