The canal lies in the cobblestones and flows through the city
it divides Kreuzberg from Neukölln
Here there are swans and boats of the circle of stars shipping
the chestnut trees bloom in the middle of May
just like everywhere else
I like being at home here
I like being at home here
It's Pentecost and there's carnival at Hermannplatz
you can hear the music from far away
it's Sunday in peace
on page 2 of the paper it's Sunday in war
I like being at home here
I like being at home here
Some women with headscarves and baby carriages walk on by
Some players on the Buhlplatz surely are not only free today
The rain puddles from the day before on the path
On the bench a man is sleeping
and everyone is as free as they can
I like being at home here
I like being at home here
On the water a boat, on the deck tourists waving to strange passengers
you could find that silly but I like waving back and go another bit
towards the Urbahn port, I want to see if the swans are sleeping already
and the evening comes slowly, dawning and idly
one speaks many languages and goes one's way
